Product Details

Hans J. Wegner The Chair

Our Hans J. Wegner The Chair is a faithful reproduction of this famous iconic furniture design. Hans J. Wegner The Chair was original named the 'Round Chair'. But after being used to seat John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon in the first televised election debate in 1960, it became known as 'The Chair'. Our Hans J. Wegner The Chair has all the functional elegance and comfort of the original. The wooden frame is made from a choice of oak or ash, and has a gracefully arched backrest that supports the body. The seat is lightly padded with high quality classic leather, making it perfect for everyday use.

The story behind Hans J. Wegner The Chair

Designed in 1949, Hans J. Wegner referred to his creation as 'The Round One' due to the curved backrest. Modest and simple, the design is the very essence of traditional Danish wood and furniture design. In the 1950s, it was noticed by 'Interiors', an American magazine for design and architecture. They described it as 'the most beautiful chair in the world'. Legend has it that this was the catalyst that propelled Danish furniture design to compete at an international level.
